After a successful Professional Supercross and Motocross season in 2005, Team Subway Coca-Cola Honda will attack the AMA THQ Supercross Series and AMA Motocross Series once again in 2006 with riders Jeff Gibson of Westerville, Ohio; Jason Thomas of Melrose, Florida; and introducing our newest team rider, Keith R. Johnson of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Thomas had a strong year in ¿05 with a 14th overall in Supercross with a season best seventh in Houston. In AMA Motocross, ¿JT Money¿ finished 13th overall with a season best 10th at Red Bud. Thomas most recently won the Montreal Supercross 250cc main event this past weekend as well and is looking forward to 2006, starting this coming weekend at the U.S. Open in Las Vegas.
Gibson started off the 2005 season strong as he finished eighth in the mud at Anaheim 1, but he broke a bone in his neck a few rounds later at Indianapolis. Overall, Gibson finished 23rd in the Supercross series and 23rd in AMA Motocross with a season best 12th overall at Mount Morris. ¿Gibby¿ is looking for redemption in 2006 and will also be in Vegas this weekend trying for a piece of the whopping $300,000 purse.
New team rider Johnson comes from a long stint at Star Racing and is ¿looking for a change.¿ Once named ¿Privateer of the Year¿ in Supercross, ¿KJ¿ is looking to get back where he belongs as he finished a disappointing 25th in Supercross and 37th in AMA Motocross with several nagging injuries holding him back throughout the year. Johnson is still getting used to his new bikes and will not be racing this weekend in Vegas. His first race with the team will be at the World Supercross opener in Toronto on December 3, 2005.
¿I¿m obviously happy with the team riders for 2006 and think we have a good shot at doing well and representing all of our sponsors this year,¿ says team owner and manager Chuck Schultz.
Speaking of sponsors, Schultz adds, ¿We¿re keeping almost all of our sponsors from 2005 and adding a couple. We were really happy with our program last year and plan on carrying the team torch across the country again in 2006.¿
On another side note, Schultz and company plan on adding an online store that will sell all of the team sponsors¿ products as well as team gear, apparel, merchandise and swag. ¿We¿re excited about the new online store as well as another huge announcement that we will make in the next few weeks,¿ notes Schultz.
