The Brett Downey Safety Foundation Inaugural Golf Fundraiser

The Brett Downey Safety Foundation (The Foundation) is having its inaugural golf fundraiser on October 29, 2005 at the Menifee Lakes Country Club in California.  All money raised will go directly to promoting track safety.  The Foundation has already started its pilot program with five tracks in Southern California.  We will be providing details of the progress, as well as spread the program to other tracks in the immediate future.

The Foundation uses the money raised to provide tracks with starter kits, which include vests and flags for track flaggers, two-way radios for communication between some of the flaggers, and Enter and Exit signs for the tracks to post in the appropriate areas.  Furthermore, The Foundation has created a brochure with safety tips and track etiquette for riders of all levels, as well as their parents, to ensure their children know how to ride safely at a track, and know what to expect from tracks.  Finally, The Foundation is in the process of creating a DVD to provide to the tracks and events, to help train flaggers, using the standards developed by the AMA for its road racing program.  This will help in unifying what the flaggers are taught and allow promoters to obtain flaggers from a pool of educated flaggers for their events.
