This week on FUEL TV’s The Weekly Update With Boost Mobile, we start with coverage of the Billabong Pro Tahiti, the third stop of the ASP World Tour, where DDamien Hobgood prevails over Mick Fanning in the big barrels of Teahupoo. Tour rookie Kai Otton and vet Joel Parkinson are equal third.
In other surf news, the Quiksilver Surf Shop Challenge central-northwest qualifier was held at Pleasure Point in Santa Cruz, California, with the O’Neill Surf Shop crew winning the contest.
At the Oxbow Pro World Longboard Championships, held at Anglet, France, Brazilian Phil Rajzman took the title and made history by becoming the first-ever Brazilian ASP world champ.
The O’Neill Highland Open, an ASP six-star WQS, was held on Scotland’s northern coast in very cold water, but that didn’t stop Australian Nathan Hedge from winning the sword over Jarrad Howse, who took second place.
In BMX news, pro Allan Cooke is back on the road for the fourth year with his Local Exposure Tour, this time traveling across the Southwest looking for the hottest unsponsored amateur rider. In the end, Marcos Torres was awarded the sponsorship package.
In skateboard news, Sun Diego hosted the Mada Rails For Rolees skate demo and contest at their El Cajon, California store with Jeff King building a skate ramp out of an old Cadillac Limousine. In the end, James Brockman won the contest, while Arturo Sanchez got second and Saul Quintero takes third.
In snowboard news, Burton Snowboards’ Chill program hosted a golf tournament in Southern California that raised $15,000 to help take at-risk kids out of the city and get them snowboarding.
