Townley’s Vegas Supercross Shootout Short-Lived.

The Las Vegas East vs West Supercross Lites shootout has ended in an anti climax as one of the main protagonists and newly crowned East Coast champion, Ben Townley of the Monster Energy/ Pro Circuit/ Kawasaki team suffered a technical mishap in the main event.

Townley’s road to the main was flawless as he qualified fastest in the East coast group and then went on to win his qualifying race, setting the stage for a thrilling 15 lap final.

As the gate dropped for the much awaited duel, Townley’s number 1E Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/ Kawasaki grabbed the Progressive hole-shot. Moments later the New Zealander came to a standstill with a derailed chain putting the kiwi out of contention much to the dismay of the sellout Vegas crowd.

“I really enjoyed riding in Las Vegas, commented Townley. “The hype surrounding this race is unbelievable. I liked the track and the hard dirt and this has been my first heat win so I was really pumped for the final. I ripped the hole-shot and was looking forward to a battle with Dungey and Villopoto but I guess it didn’t happen. I have had a great Supercross season but it’s now time to focus on the outdoors. My fitness is great and I really can’t wait to pound out those 30 minute moto’s.

Townley will head to Sacramento, CA in two weeks time for the opening round of the AMA Motocross National championship in Hangtown. As a former MX2 World champion, ‘BT’ is tipped as one of the favourites for the outdoor series.
