TransWorld Media to Launch Two New Magazine Titles

TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA: Following the overwhelming success of its original motorsports title, TransWorld Motocross, TransWorld Media has announced that it will launch two new motor sports-related titles in 2004: TransWorld Motocross Plus! And MansWorld Motocross.

“Our original magazine, TransWorld Motocross, has grown at an astounding rate, said Publisher Brad McDonald. “When we launched TWMX nearly four years ago, never did we dream that the magazine would be so well received. That being said, the editors and I feel that in spite of TWMX‘s well-rounded editorial package, there remain a couple voids in the motocross magazine marketplace. We feel that we can produce not one, but two new titles directed at specific motocross markets.

TransWorld Motocross Plus! will be directed towards the ever-growing “Vet racer category, with heavier-set riders in particular, in mind. “I can remember when my older brother first turned 30 and began to compete in the Vet classes, said TransWorld Motocross Magazine Editor Donn Maeda. “Back then, I thought that turning 30 was the end of the world. Now, at 35, I find myself racing more than ever and really enjoying the camaraderie amongst my fellow vet class racers. Furthermore, I find myself packing a little more padding around my mid-section these days, just like many Vet racers. The time has come for a magazine that recognizes the fact that not all motocrosser are 130-pound triathletes who wear size 30 leathers.

Launched as a bi-monthly title, the premiere issue TransWorld Motocross Plus! is set to hit newsstands on May 15, 2004. The 148-page issue is jam-packed with plenty of information, product tests and how-to features, including a 12-page career retrospective on the legendary New England racer JoJo Keller, a helpful suspension-stiffening feature, a Kidney Belt Shootout for those with waist sized over 40 inches, as well as a riding pant shootout between Phat Catt and Grey Wolf leathers. Most exciting, however, is the regular Big Skills section, which features riding tips for man-sized riders. Written exclusively for TransWorld Motocross Plus! by former TransWorld Motocross assistant editor Erick “Big E Bartoldus, the first installment of Big Skills teaches readers how to make proper line selections that will allow a rider to circulate the entire track effectively in a seated position.

Aimed at the 18 to 24 year-old male reader, MansWorld Motocross is a direct extension of the popular Hook Up section and free pull-out poster features of TransWorld Motocross. Though the photos of bikini-clad females were quite popular in the magazine, there were readers who found the images inappropriate for a family oriented motocross magazine.

“Instead of simply eliminating the controversial photos from our main motocross publication, we decided to expand upon that type of content in a branch-off publication that was directed specifically at the young male audience, said Garth Milan, Editor of MansWorld Motocross. “Having seen the remarkable success of magazines like Maxim and FHM, we decided to throw a little dirt and premix into that formula and create a motocross magazine exclusively for men.

Launched as a quarterly publication, MansWorld Motocross will hit newsstands on June 15 with a massive 200-page premiere issue. Inside, readers will find not one, not two, but three free pull-out posters, a 16-page pictorial with the Umbrella Girls USA staff, a 12-page pictorial featuring the factory riders’ wives and girlfriends, plus a three-page pictorial with the racers of the Women’s Motocross Association. Each month, a helpful how-to feature will instruct readers not necessarily how to ride better on the track, but how to enjoy more success with the ladies off the track. Penned by lady killer Garth, the first installment offers tips on how to ride oon both days of the weekend, without ending up in the dog house. Though this feature is aimed directly at the married or seriously committed set, future issues will include great ice-breakers to use in the pits with female spectators and fans, as well as a guide to what color gear combinations have women find most attractive. Also to be found in each issue are handy new product guides aimed directly at after-ride grooming products and casual wear.
