CARLSBAD, Calif., (Jan. 22, 2007) — Unbound Energy’s Chad Reed (San Manuel/Yamaha) scored his third-straight Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series podium this past weekend at Anaheim Angels Stadium, finishing 2nd overall in the AMA Supercross class in front of another packed house on the ’07 supercross tour.
Reed, who carried some momentum into the main with a holeshot and win in his heat race, got out of the main event start in fourth place behind Ivan Tedesco, Nick Wey and James Stewart. Reed and Tedesco would battle early, with Reed taking the advantage near the end of lap two and moving into third place.
Setting his sights on the leaders, Stewart and Wey, Reed put his head down and caught Wey by lap eight. The two battled for a moment before Reed beat Wey into a corner out of a long whoop section. Still battling a sore shoulder, Reed did what he needed to secure 2nd place — his first runner-up finish of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross season. The finish also put more distance between Reed and 3rd place overall in the points standings (Tim Ferry). Reed leads Ferry 62-50 for 2nd place overall.
“In the main I struggled to get going early, but was able to get it together later in the race, said Reed. “Third (place) was getting old, so I moved it up to 2nd this week. I’m happy for the whole San Manuel/Yamaha team.
Reed’s Unbound Energy-backed teammate Nathan Ramsey was able to make the top ten this week, finishing a solid 10th in the talent-laden field. Ramsey made it to the main with a 8th place finish in the first heat race. Noteworthy: After missing the main event at the first round of the series, Ramsey has made two-straight main events and moved into 13th place overall in the AMA Supercross class, only 11 points out of the top ten.
Unbound Energy-backed Reed and Ramsey return to action this weekend (Jan. 27th) for another California round of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series at San Francisco’s SBC Park. Last year Ramsey won the Lites class at San Francisco, while Reed finished 5th overall in the Supercross class.
