Unbound Energy Drink-Backed Chad Reed 2nd Overall at Houston SX

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 12, 2007) — Unbound Energy Drink’s Chad Reed (San Manuel/Yamaha) has yet to finish off the podium in 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross racing, this past weekend making his sixth-straight appearance on the box with a come-from-behind 2nd place finish in the AMA Supercross class main event.

With the effort Reed’s kept overall series points leader James Stewart within reach, trailing by only 21 points (147-126) as the series is not even at its halfway point yet.

On the surface Reed looked to be having an excellent weekend. Winning the first heat race over a fast Kevin Windham to make the main, Reed admitted to battling a bit of a stomach issue in the main event — which had him racing as low as 4th place at one point.

“I just struggled in the main event, said Reed. “I didn’t have what it took to win.

Reed did, however, have what it took to rally back from illness and pass two of the series’ top racers (Windham and Tim Ferry) to capture the runner-up spot to race winner Stewart.

“I was sitting in 4th thinking ‘I can’t stay here,’ said Reed of what went through his head before his late race charge to the podium. “I pushed at the end and tried to get up to second.

Reed caught Ferry for 3rd on lap nine and Windham for 2nd on lap 14.

“I know what the problem was and we’re going to fix it, said Reed. “Second is getting old and I’d like to win.

Reed’s Unbound Energy Drink-backed San Manuel/Yamaha teammate Nathan Ramsey took the long route to the main event, winning the Supercross class Last Chance Qualifier — only to crash out of the main event on lap 11. Ramsey is still well within striking distance of the top ten overall in points, 13 points back of Nick Wey (10th).

Unbound Energy Drink-backed Reed and Ramsey return to action this weekend (Feb. 17th) for Round Seven of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium. Last year at Qualcomm both Reed (3rd) Supercross class and Ramsey (3rd) Lites class were on the podium in San Diego.
