Unbound Energy Drink’s Chad Reed Wins San Diego Supercross

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 19, 2007) — In front of more than 60,000 fans at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium, Unbound Energy Drink’s Chad Reed (San Manuel/Yamaha) pulled off his first win of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series season, and in the process pulled to within 12 point over overall series leader James Stewart (163-151).

Reed, who is the only racer to make the podium in all seven rounds thus far, took the lead from holeshot winner and fellow former Lites class champion Ivan Tedesco before the end of the first lap and led the race on and off through lap three before Stewart moved into the lead.

Working to apply pressure on Stewart, Reed, the 2004 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross champion caught a break when Stewart went down in spectacular fashion off the finish line jump on lap eight. Smelling blood, Reed moved in for the kill, took the lead and never looked back — recording his first Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series win since Dallas last year.

“I love this place, said Reed of San Diego. “I’ve had so many great races here and this is huge for me. Second place was getting really old. It’s a shame to see James crash like that, but this (win) is a big relief for me because I know I can win.

Reed was hauling the mail all day. In practice his top lap time was less than 3/10ths of a second behind Stewart, so the points leader knew he was going to have a battle on his hands. Reed carried that momentum and an apparently healed shoulder into the first heat race where he absolutely dominated the rest of the field, topping 2nd place Tim Ferry by nearly 17 seconds in the eight-lap contest.

“I really felt good all day. My shoulder hasn’t felt this well all season and I’m confident our team has turned the corner, said Reed. “I can’t wait to race in Atlanta this weekend.

Unbound Energy Drink-backed Reed and Ramsey return to action this weekend (Feb. 24th) for Round Eight of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series at Atlanta’s Georgia Dome. Last year at Atlanta Reed finished 2nd.
