AURORA, Ill. (August 1, 2007) — The 2007 Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open, which will take place inside Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena October 12-14, announced today that CBS Sports will once again broadcast a 90-minutes television package Sunday, October 20, from 1:30-3:00 p.m. EST.
CBS Sports will capture the first ever ‘open class’ format at the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open where the top Lites riders will take on the premier supercross class riders to form one open class in a best-of-the-best showdown on the confines of the MGM Grand Garden Arena, crowing one overall champion.
“This year’s television package will feature a milestone in U.S. Open history, said Todd Jendro, senior director of supercross, Live Nation — Motor Sports. “Fans across the country will see — for the first time ever — the best riders from both classes racing for the lion’s share of purse money during the two-night extravaganza.
Also included in this year’s U.S. Open format will be the three part Trifecta bonus program that will pay additional money to the fastest qualifier for each night’s event, a bonus to each night’s holeshot winner and a bonus for any rider that can complete the Trifecta challenge by being the fastest qualifier, getting the holeshot and winning the main event. Any rider that hits the Trifecta will earn a $50,000 bonus each night in addition to the regular event purse and any rider that can “Double Down” and hit the Trifecta both nights will walk away with $250,000 for the weekend.
