World’s Biggest and Richest Freestyle Motocross Competition Returns to LA

World Championships event to headline LG Action Sports USA Championships.

(LOS ANGELES) ¿ The world¿s biggest names in Freestyle Motocross (FMX) are headed back to Los Angeles for the richest and final FMX event of 2005.  With more than $100,000 in prize money at stake, the LG World Championships of Freestyle Motocross (FMX) will take center stage October 1 at Fairplex Park in Pomona, CA during the L.A. County Fair.

Barely a decade old, the high-octane sport of FMX draws fans by the droves with its unique combination of two international obsessions: motorsports and huge stunts.  The riders who have qualified for this World Championship event have quickly become mainstream household names.  Superstars like X Games gold medalist Travis Pastrana, two-time World Champion Nate Adams, Kenny ¿the Cowboy¿ Bartram, Mike ¿the Godfather¿ Metzger, Drake McElroy and Jeremy ¿Twitch¿ Stenberg are all scheduled to compete.

Produced by ASA Events, the world¿s largest action sports event and television production company, the LG World Championships of FMX will feature the planet¿s 15 best pro FMX riders in head-to-head competition. The event will crown the undisputed 2005 World Champion, with the winner taking home a $30,000 first place bounty. The event will be televised nationally on CBS on November 27, with additional coverage on OLN and TV distribution to over 140 countries worldwide.

¿Worldwide interest in FMX is growing at an astonishing pace, and that interest is fueling an equally rapid progression within the sport,¿ says ASA Events president Rick Bratman. ¿Five years ago, a back-flip on a motorcycle was almost unthinkable, but it has already become a must-do trick if a rider hopes to make the podium. You never know what amazing stunts these athletes will pull to one-up their competition and win the World Championships.¿

The LG World Championships of FMX is being held in conjunction with the LG Action Sports USA Championships, the national championship vert competition for freestyle BMX, skateboarding and aggressive inline skating. This half-pipe event, being held September 30 ¿ October 1 during the L.A. County Fair in Pomona, is the eighth and final stop on the 2005 LG Action Sports World Tour. It is also the final qualifying event of the season for the 2005 LG Action Sports World Championships, to be held in Manchester, England from October 21-23, 2005.

Competing in the LG Action Sports USA Championships will be approximately 50 of the biggest names in action sports, including several previous World Champions and winners of past X Games, Gravity Games, Dew Tour, Triple Crown and Mobile Skatepark Series competitions. The confirmed athlete roster already includes superstars such as Dave Mirra, Bob Burnquist, Sandro Dias, Pierre-Luc Gagnon, Eito Yasutoko, Fabiola da Silva, Takeshi Yasutoko, Simon Tabron, Kevin Robinson, Chad Kagy, Anthony Furlong, Lincoln Ueda, Marc Englehart, Shane Yost and John Parker.
