Wounded Bird: Larry Ward Out With Shoulder Injury

Against all hopes, Moto XXX team rider Larry Ward will have his race season cut short by a nagging shoulder injury. ¿Big Bird¿ originally broke his right collarbone while preparing for the 125 East Supercross series. He made it back for the final rounds of the series, but continued to experience pain. He decided to rest it until the beginning of the outdoor nationals, thinking that the extra time would make a noticeable difference.

Unfortunately, the shoulder hasn¿t progressed as planned and Ward felt it best to get it taken care of now rather than risk further damage. He will undergo surgery to remove a plate that was used to treat the injury earlier this year and then follow his doctor¿s instructions and therapy regimen.

Larry is disappointed to be missing the outdoor season, but is keeping everything in perspective. ¿You know, if I was still a teenager, I¿d go out there and do the best I could on it,¿ he says. ¿But at my age, you take care of injuries properly or you risk cutting your career short. I¿m really focused on next year¿s World Supercross GP series and I want to do everything I can to be 100% ready when that starts.¿

Of course, the team marches on and into the AMA National Motocross season this weekend. Kyle Lewis has made rapid progress in his own return from off-season injuries and is poised to do some damage at Hangtown and following rounds of the series. Since the end of the 125 West Supercross season, Tim Weigand has been focused on the nationals and getting his Honda CRF250R ready for battle. Tim has had some excellent results in various tune-up races and enters the second half of the year with a lot of confidence.
