Nearly 100 kids got their first taste of throttle-twisting fun last weekend during the Youth Demo Ride conducted as part of TransWorld Ride Day at Starwest MX in Perris, CA. This grass roots effort designed to introduce new riders to the sport was conducted by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
Focused on kids age 6-12, the students got to suit up with gear provided by Thor Motocross, and were given basic instruction from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s DirtBike School crew. The students were then cut loose to turn laps on an appropriately-sized Suzuki under the watchful eye of their teachers.
Judging by the smiling faces of the kids, it was a big success. Their parents also liked the free price tag.
Best quotes of the weekend included:
“I want my kid out of the house and away from the TV.”
“This is a great idea!”
“$200 for an X Box? Forget that! That’s a down payment for a bike.”
“What does that kid have against hay?” (A parent commenting on one rider who was repeatedly abusing the haybales.)
