The inaugural Muscle Milk TWMX Race Series Spring Cup in Northern California will conclude with a single, special day of racing at 408 MX in San Jose on Saturday, June 8th. The final day of racing will pay out double points for those going after Spring Cup championships. Points will be awarded on a per-moto basis. The top 30-percent in each class will be presented with awards and prizes from race series sponsors. Don’t miss out!

There is no sight like 40 of the fastest racers in the world bolting down a freshly tilled straightaway just inches from one another. When the gate clanks into the soil, the noise of the perfectly tuned racing engines firing in unison fills the air while the pack thunders away to the tight first turn. We see 48 times over the course of every summer, but each time is as exciting as the last. The 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship kicked off this past weekend at Sacramento, California’s Hangtown Raceway, and GoPro cameras caught to action from the helmets of seven riders, including the entire Rockstar Energy Racing team. 2013 Muscle Milk TWMX Race Series SoCal Summer Cup Schedule Announced

The Muscle Milk TWMX Race Series continues on through Southern California in 2013 and we are proud to announce the schedule for the five round Summer Cup. The fastest-growing motocross organization in California will hit five of SoCal best motocross tracks over the course of June, July, and August, starting at Riverside’s Milestone MX Park and concluding at Hesperia’s Competitive Edge. With the turnouts of our previous 2013 Winter and Spring Cups to gauge from, we expect the summer to be our biggest championship yet.

Every stop of the Summer Cup will use our two-track format, which separates riders based on skill level and gives the best racing experience for all involved. Beginner level riders, from PeeWees to 450s, compete on the Amateur tracks. All other skill levels will race on the Expert tracks. This allows motos to be run simultaneously on tracks that are more suited for a racer’s capabilities and keeps both tracks in prime condition. Because different levels of racing are able to take place at the same time, it creates a much shorter day at the track. At every round of the Spring Cup, racing was completed by 3:30 PM.

Muscle Milk TWMX Race Series Rider Profile: Nick Sanchez

Nick Sanchez came out to the Competitive Edge Rounds of the Spring Series finale to put in some laps at race pace. Working towards getting his AMA pro points to compete at the nationals and work his way into supercross, Sanchez is facing tough hurdles, as are many other privateer riders, as support for racers making their way into the pro ranks has become hard to find with the recent economic times. The high desert rider is working on overcoming those hurdles, but must balance out his full time job with his racing regimen.

What was your path to making the pro class?

I’ve been riding since I was 5 years old and I turned pro when I was 17. So I’ve been riding pro for a while now after a lot of years of racing.

What has been your accomplishments since turning pro?

I’ve raced the AMA races to get my pro points, but I’ve just struggled getting to the races. I’ve done pretty good, I’ve gotten a top 10 in Lake Whitney when it was still around. I’ve done a lot of the qualifiers, the Mammoth qualifiers and I’ve been getting top 5’s in those. That’s about it lately.

What is your long term goal with motocross?

Hopefully by the end of this year’s national series I will be able to make it to Elsinore at the end and try to get a point so I can race supercross next year in 450’s.

Do you have another job besides motocross?

I’m an electrician full time.

Do you find it is hard to balance the full time career with your motocross training?

I train at least 3 times a week and ride about 50 miles a week on my road bike. I get to ride only about once a week on Saturdays or Sundays.

Beside the road bike, what other training do you do?

I do a little weight lifting, squats, presses, but that’s about it.

How much do you think that affects your goal of getting to the nationals?

It is a big part of pursuing the pro racing. It affects it a lot.

What drives you to race motocross?

I just grew up doing it. It’s been in my life since I was 5 years old.

Does the rest of your family ride also?

My brother rides a little bit, but they all pretty much just support me 100%.

When you were growing up, was it a family activity?

Oh yeah, every weekend for years.

What other activities do you have besides motocross?

That pretty much it. I go to work from 8 to 4, then I go train or get on my road bike, then go to sleep and then wake up and do it all over again.

What other races do you do besides the Transworld Race Series?

I try to get to the bigger ones, like the bigger amateur ones, as many as I can. Last year I all the races that gave pro points, I traveled to Arizona and some other races that I’ve never been to so I can get my pro points.

What’s your favorite race that you’ve done?

My favorite track and race I’ve done was Lake Whitney. Different dirt, it was all clay, and we never get to ride in that out here. It was awesome.

You threw down a couple heel clickers over the finish line, is that your signature move?

Yeah, that’s pretty much my only trick, that and a whip.

Muscle Milk TWMX SoCal Spring Cup Race Series 2013: Comp. Edge

The sixth and final round of the 2013 So-Cal Spring Race Series concluded this weekend, and in tremendous fashion. As tradition would have it, Competitive Edge MX Park has always been a staple to host the final double-header rounds so we decided to stick to our roots and once again hold the finale up in the high desert.

Being that the So-Cal Spring Cup came to an end, all of the race series sponsors stepped up and pitched in tons of great prizes to be given away to the top riders of each class. Bell Helmets, Leatt-Brace, ODI, EKS Brand goggles,Muscle Milk, Maxxis tires and other great products from Universal, VP racing, Asterisk, One Industries, Works Connection and FMF were among the many to donate products for the giveaway. Also, Yamaha was kind enough to throw in a Yamaha canopy, Yamaha generator and a brand new PW50 into the mix, so hard working racers went home with some awesome stuff. And we can’t forget about vendor row, either. Maxxis tires headed up to Hesperia to keep racers laced up with some new tires, while Etnies supplied tons of stickers and a few pairs of their new shoe lineup were on display. ODI made the trek up to the high desert to keep riders supplied with their new shirts and in case of a fall, grips and handlebars were available, as well. The Thousand Oaks Yamaha van was on deck also making sure Yamaha riders had everything they needed for the crucial race weekend.

Round six on the So-Cal Spring Cup has always been an, “all or nothing”, type of race. And for good reason this weekend because Yamaha donated a canopy, generator and this PW50 to the giveaway lineup for the fastest racers in each class.

The Muscle Milk TWMX trophies were another reason for racers to be on their A-game this weekend.

When it came time for the gate to drop, tons of So-Cal’s fastest amateurs hit the outdoor style track in hopes of bringing home another trophy to add to their collection. Just to name a few: Brad Walker, Cody Baker, Cody Gibson, and Nick Sanchez all had a great Sunday of racing. Walker finished with an overall in 250B and a second overall in Open (non-pro), while Baker took home first in 450B and edged out Walker for the win in Open. Local boy Gibson left with first overall in 450C with a 2-1 finish and Nick Sanchez not only won 450A, but he swept Pro open as well.

Nick Sanchez was hands down the fastest racer this weekend! Sanchez wowed spectators with his incredible speed and uniquely smooth riding style.

Cody Baker laid down some blistering lap times this weekend and he was well rewarded with two overall finishes in 450B and Open (non-pro).

Cody Gibson was one of the definite top dogs in the Novice class and this weekend he brought home another trophy to add to his collection by winning 450C.

Well, another incredible series of bar-banging action is in the books, but don’t worry! The Muscle Milk TWMX So-Cal Summer Cup Race Series is right around the corner, and the opening round will be held at Milestone MX Park on June 16th. See you there!
