The mention of his name can send a motocross message board into meltdown. At one time, his natural talent on a bike and sheer speed was bested by only a handful of men on the planet. His ability to get under the skin of his competition earned him a championship and with it, he became part of the sport’s rich lore. His rise to the top pinnacle of the sport was hurried, but not as quick as his eventual disappearance. He is Jason Lawrence.
Much has been made about the 2008 West Coast Lites Supercross champion’s disappearance. Following a short time in jail and an unsuccessful comeback, he retreated to his native New Jersey and became somewhat of a recluse. Years have passed since he last lined up to race on a professional level, but over the past 12-months, he has competed in numerous events in the northeast, including Hare Scrambles and woods races. He has stayed clear of the media and has not given an interview since the spring of 2011, but despite this, is still of one the most liked and discussed riders in the sport.
