The 2016 Monster Energy Supercross Series has set up shop in the South for what’s without question the single most attended event of the year, the 2016 Atlanta SX in Atlanta, Georgia. This weekend will signify the start of the 250 East Coast SX Championship, with a new crop of young riders will start their conquest for title glory. For the 450 riders, it’s just another stop in their busy schedule.
Two things are always important about the Atlanta round – a very large floor and rich, red clay. Dirt Wurx and Feld Motorsports have come with a rather basic design that fills much of the stadium with seven lanes of obstacles. As we know with television schedules, lap times will be less than a minute regardless of the layout. Most of the venues on the East Coast are purpose built for football, and that’s the case with the Georgia Dome. This week’s track features a very long start straightaway (not quite as long as Glendale, though) and numerous hairpin turns that connect rhythm lanes.
Have a look at the layout below, either by computer rendered drawing or by following along with the animated track map. Either way, you’ll get an idea of what to expect on Saturday night.
