It’s October, which means it’s time for the 2016 Monster Energy Cup at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. The afternoon hours today were filled with timed qualifying sessions across the four competing classes (professional Cup Class, Amateur All-Stars, SuperMini, KTM JR SX Challenge) and after watching the talent tear around the massive track, we can say that tonight’s race should be one of the best in the event’s six-year history.

CUP CLASS TIMED QUALIFYING RESULTS

– Ken Roczen, Marvin Musquin, and Eli Tomac were the only riders in the entire field to post laps in the 1:04 range during the practice sessions. The three riders swapped the top spot numerous times through the afternoon, and the best laps from Roczen and Musquin came after the very end of the final practice session.

– Ryan Dungey quietly clocked the fourth fastest lap of the day.

– Chad Reed had a strange crash in the untimed free practice, as the veteran racer ran off the track and into the finish line display structure. Reed seemed a bit rattled after the wreck but regrouped to finish fifth in the time.
