Corona, CA (February 27, 2012) – The 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series is two races into the nine round east coast swing. Playing host to this week's event was the always-ecstatic Georgia Dome crowd in Atlanta, GA. In front of more than 71,000 fans, Geico Honda/Pro Taper rider Justin Barcia grabbed his second win in a row.
Straight off of a dominating win in Arlington, the defending East Coast Lites Champion showed no plans of surrendering the points lead in Atlanta. In the afternoon qualifying sessions Barcia was just edged out for the pole position, but grabbed himself a great gate pick for the evening's heat races nonetheless. Following close behind in times was Geico Honda rookie sensation Justin Bogle. Not to be outdone by his young teammates, veteran Kevin Windham took a solid top five qualifying spot in the 450cc Supercross class.
In the Lites main event, Pro Taper's Barcia jumped out to the early lead and never looked back. The Geico Honda rider led all 15 laps in route to his second win in as many races. He now sits 12 points ahead of the field and looks to be in control of his title defense. Teammate Justin Bogle turned in career best rides in both his heat and main event. Bogle secured his first professional victory in his heat race, then backed it up with his first Supercross Lites podium in the main event. Fellow Pro Taper riders Kyle Cunningham and Jake Canada also put in respectable top ten rides.
Kevin Windham continued to add to his rapidly growing legacy. The undisputed fan favorite notched his 200th career Supercross class main event start this weekend in Atlanta. When the TV crew asked how he felt about reaching the landmark, in classic K-Dub fashion, he said that 200 is cool but all he could think about is another 100. Congratulations on the feat Kevin. Here's to another 100!
Next stop is in St. Louis, MO this Saturday, March 3rd. Be sure to tune in to Pro Taper's social media sites for updates throughout the day at all of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross races.
