Supercross training is currently in full swing for professional riders in the United States, but the pursuit of speed brings a certain level of risk. We are hearing that Colt Nichols, the new signee to the Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha team, has sustained a broken femur in a practice crash on the Supercross track at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park in Southern California.
Nichols had a breakout season in 2016 with the Cycle Trader/Rock River Yamaha squad, and stellar finishes like a second place in Oakland put him on the prospect lists for many 250 teams. Nichols inked a deal with the Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha team for 2017 early in signing season, before a torn ACL at the 2o16 Washougal MX put him on the sidelines for the remainder of the summer.
Nichols recently started his time with the Star Racing squad a few weeks ago and looked incredibly quick during the few practice motos we were able to watch at the Yamaha test track. This injury will be a massive setback for Nichols, as he hoped to race the 250 West Coast SX series. Should the recovery go okay, he could still make the 250 East Coast SX series when it starts in February.
Here’s hoping Nichols heals quickly returns to the track soon…
