As we come to the conclusion of the 2014 race season, the details for next year are starting to fall into place. For weeks we have alluded to Davi Millsaps’ departure from the Rockstar Energy Racing KTM team and a jump to Monster Energy Kawasaki, but figured it would take months until we’d see him aboard the green machine. Surprisingly, the word came out last week that Millsaps had been released from his contract with the Bobby Hewitt-backed team and was free to begin testing with the factory backed team. We made the quick trip to Milestone MX Park to see him in action aboard the bike, which is a full race bike minus the Monster Energy logos on the radiator shrouds, and captured shots of his first motos.
The change has come with plenty of criticism, but this is a standard response by fans when a professional athlete makes a change in teams. No matter, Millsaps seems unfazed by the backlash and is ready to prepare for the next two years under the team’s tent, which is slated to officially start at this fall’s Monster Energy Cup. A GoPro Hero 3+ camera was mounted to the top of Millsaps’ Airoh helmet last week and recorded his first motos on the Riverside, California, circuit.
