The highlight of the TransWorld SLAM Fest, presented by MTA Distributing, is the pro SLAM race, which pits riders in a head-to-head, tournament-style competition on the Milestone Supercross track. The eight fastest qualifiers are put into four two-man, two-lap heat races. The winners move on to two two-man, two-lap semis, with the winners advancing to the SLAM Final. A third wild card rider – editor’s choice – is seeded into the three two-lap, three-rider main events. The rider with the best overall score in the three finals is crowned the TransWorld SLAM Champion and takes home the entire $5000 purse, the coveted TransWorld SLAM Championship Belt, and a brand-new Traeger Grill. Past TransWorld SLAM winners include Dean Wilson, Wil Hahn, Justin Bogle, Matt Goerke, Josh Hill, and Vince Friese.
Wilson has been rebuilding his fitness and speed this summer after sitting out the early part of the year with a serious knee injury sustained during Supercross. Though he has yet to sign a deal for 2017 and beyond, Wilson will compete at the TransWorld SLAM with backing from Red Bull KTM. Winner of the inagural SLAM, Wilson is looking to add a second SLAM Belt to his trophy case. “It was a big deal for me to win the TransWorld SLAM,” said Wilson. “It was my first race as a professional, and coming away with the win over some seasoned pros was a big confidence booster.”
