The Golden Era

While walking the halls of the MGM Grand at the last ever US Open in 2009, we were randomly handed a DVD by a few teenagers in the middle of the casino. Titled The Golden Era, the cover featured a then little-known Dean Wilson shredding through a berm, while the back of the box listed a rundown of the sport’s top amateur stars. We watched the video on the trip home from Las Vegas and were blown away by the talent and production of the DVD. Made by Ryan Walters, it documented the early days of Dean Wilson, Cooper Webb, Eli Tomac, Kyle Regal, Weston Peick, Jessy Nelson, Michael Leib, Blake Green, Kyle Engle, Landon Currier, Christian Craig, Adam Cianciarulo, Justin Barcia, Travis Baker, Blake Baggett, Max Anstie, and Jason Anderson. Although the resulting years of each rider’s career have been varied, the video was a perfect display of their talent and ambition to reach the premier ranks of racing.

Walters shot us an email the other day and let us know the video is now available for purchase on iTunes. Before you scoff that it’s been five years since initial release, have a look at the trailer and see what life was like before factory contracts, Supercross opening ceremonies, and adulthood…
