We’ve all been hearing about the gigantic leap that Red Bull rider Robbie Maddison will be doing for Red Bull’s New Year No Limits, but we haven’t seen much practice footage of him actually preparing for it. We ran across this video on EXPN’s moto blog and just had to share it on here. It’s insane!

It’s stuff like this that gives our sport a bad name. Sure riding and racing is plenty dangerous but when you add stupidity into the mix it just becomes ridiculous. Those who are in charge of these types of things are only interested in ratings and making money. It gives the whole sport and all of us in it a bad image. How’s a little kid supposed to convince his mom to get him his first bike when she sees dangerous stunts like this going on?

all i have to say is, robbie maddison has fome FRIGGEN BALLS. i think the highest i’ve ever jumped is 22 feet up. biggest triple of my life. i almost shit my pants when i looked down. this guy is just nuts. huge props man. wow. i hope he doesn’t die.

If you actually listened to the video it sounds like they’re taking lots of pracations and jumping up in small incriments. Yah its a little nuts but what the hell I give him props. I bet all you guys making comments have watched a nitro circus video or two and thought it was awesome, whats the difference. And how exactly does this give our sport a bad image??? You can thank maddo, pastrana, deegan, renner, etc for bringing more outside sponsors into our sport.

Maddo’s cleared the complete height once. They don’t want to show it in the video because they want to keep you guessing. I have a bad feeling too, but Maddo is a smart guy and he wouldn’t do anything that he thinks he doesn’t have a chance at pulling off. Maddo is a fucking legend.

If I remember correctly in a previous ‘preview’ video, Maddo was talking about the physics of the jump. Surely something like this isn’t left to chance, there would be a lot of physics involved such as exactly how fast he must go as against ramp height, steepness, etc, to ensure that he lands on the platform safely.

Outside sponsors? Who gives a shit? Who benefits from “outside sponsors”? A dozen or two riders? Yeah, I want Budweiser bringing in a bunch of spodes to try jumping, break their neck and our sport gets sued out of existence. I’m sure the Sierra Club would love to be an “outside sponsor”. The NASCARization of off road riding is going to kill this sport along with the lawyers.
