It was announced yesterday by the Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda squad that Malcolm Stewart will miss upcoming rounds of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship due to an illness. When swapmoto called to check in and get the details of what is affecting the popular 450 rider, he was shocked to hear he was in the hospital due to Mookie’s ever-present lighthearted attitude. Severe dehydration and general tiredness were the symptoms Stewart felt over the last few weeks, but doctors have determined that his kidneys are bogged down by particles of muscle that have become trapped inside the vital organs, all of which is explained in the interview the two conducted over the phone.
It’s a bummer that Malcolm won’t be able to line up for the next few races, especially since he had never missed a race since making his professional debut and recently landed on the cover of our magazine for the second time. To get the massive plume of color on the cover, swap and our creative Art Director Shane Kinman layered the ground with pounds of colored corn starch and asked Malcolm to blast through the berm aboard his CRF450R. The images inside are just as interesting, as there are no shots of Malcolm riding or racing, but are instead accurate portraits of his personality against white backdrop.
We had the camera rolling when we handed the issues over to Malcolm and quickly discussed what he thinks of his second feature, the photos, and how swap gets the best interviews out of the younger Stewart brother.
The August issue of TransWorld Motocross is on newstands and in mailboxes now.
