Monster Energy Kawasaki's Ride to Top Five Finish in the Circle City
Irvine, Calif. (March 16, 2015) – Monster Energy Kawasaki's Davi Millsaps matched his best race of the season as the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM Championship took over Indianapolis on Saturday night. After qualifying fifth and finishing second in his heat race, Millsaps put in a strong ride in the main event to finish fifth. In the 250SX class, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Joey Savatgy was looking at a podium finish before a problem struck and he was unable to finish the race.
Finding a Groove
As Millsaps continues to work during the week at the test track, his results have been on a steady incline. On the technical layout in Indianapolis, Millsaps showed he will be a rider to be reckoned with as the supercross season hits its home stretch. He put in two good qualifying practices and rode at the front of his heat race to advance directly to the main. In the feature race, the Cairo, Georgia native got a midpack start and was working his way towards the podium before a quick tip over cost him a spot and momentum. He remounted quickly to get the spot back and also grabbed one more position before the checkered flag flew.
"It is getting better every week," said Millsaps. "As I continue to get healthier and ride more and more during the week, we are able to get my settings dialed in. The track was tough tonight and I felt strong throughout the race. It was a lot of battling but I see a lot of positives from tonight."
The Bike That Builds Champions
Overall there was an OEM leading seven riders aboard a KX™450F in the 450SX main event. Discount Tire/TwoTwo Motorsports Kawasaki's Josh Grant and Chad Reed finishing seventh and ninth respectively and Jake Weimer on the Monster Energy Team Tedder entry finishing 10th. Privateer Kyle Chisholm finished 12th, Mafia Moto Crew's Nick Wey was 14th and Tony Archer finished 18th aboard his green machine.
Getting Back on the Podium
Savatgy was looking to have his best day with the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team and after qualifying second he was well on his way. In his heat race he grabbed the runner up spot and after a top ten start in the main, Savatgy had worked his way up to third place. He continued to run lap times at the same pace as the leaders until he had a problem on the ninth lap which forced him out of the race with a 20th-place finish.
"This is obviously not the result I wanted tonight," said Savatgy. "I was feeling really good coming into the race. I had a good week of training and was confident all day. I know we showed we can be right up at the front and I want to get back on the podium."
Motor City Madness
The supercross series stays in the Midwest as the teams will now head up to Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The event looks to be the final supercross race for Kawasaki rider Nick Wey in front of his home-state fans. The Michigan Mafia is sure to be out in full force to give Nick a proper sendoff.
