Corona,CA (March 12, 2012) – Cole Seely got a fantastic opportunity to work on his mud riding skills last Saturday night in Daytona Beach, Florida. The California rider looked quite good, despite being from one of the driest climates in the country. The rain came down hard throughout the day and by the time the gate dropped on the first practice it looked like the riders might need to mount a snorkel on their helmets.
Cole qualified well but his heat race was a struggle. He finished tenth after four different crashes, but remounted and kept charging the whole eight laps of the heat race only to miss the transfer spot by one position. Fortunately Cole was able to pull the holeshot in the LCQ and win that easily.
After a quick wipe down he headed back to the line for the main event. Cole's gate pick was less than stellar and provided him an uphill battle from the get go. Seely didn't get too far into the race before a crash on lap two that really put a damper on his progress. Cole did his best to recover and move forward but after it was over he found himself in 17th position.
"It was a tough night in the mud," said Cole of his Daytona experience. "I still had fun but it was so easy to make mistakes out there. I made a lot of them. Even though the whole night was a bit of a struggle I feel like I learned a lot from this race and the next time there is a mudder like this I'll have this experience in my back pocket. I'm looking forward to going back to a covered stadium next weekend though."
Cole and the entire series will make their way to Indianapolis next weekend after a week of scraping mud out of every nook and cranny. Be sure to stop by and say hello to Cole if you make it to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indanapolis, Indiana.
