With a freshly groomed and watered LACR Raceway, the great people at SHOT Race Gear happily hosted us and a bunch of other media out for the proper introduction of their 2017 line. A brand that has roots in Europe, SHOT has major a major stride by entering the US market last year and teaming up with MTA Distributing as their primary distribution hub. With their existing Contact and Devo lines already out, they added their brand new Aerolite line for 2017 that they were very proud to announce that it’s the lightest production gear available by any manufacturer. With goody bags placed out for all of the editors on hand, we all grabbed our stuff and tried it on! Read on for our first impressions…
Donn Maeda on the Contact Line:
In 2016, Contact was the highest line that Shot Race Gear imported into the United States and as such, this is what we spent the majority of our time riding in. Priced to compete with other companies, mid-level apparel, Contact gear proved to be comfortable, lightweight, and durable. We raced and rode in ours quite a bit over the past seven months, and have been very pleased with the quality and durability. For 2017, Shot Race Gear took all of our suggestions to heart and the new Contact gear is much improved. The lower legs of the pant have been slimmed down, as we felt there was some excess material to tuck into your boots on last year’s pant. The pant fits well and runs true-to-size. There’s just enough room in the knee area for braces, yet they are slim enough to look okay on riders who wear only knee cups. Leather in the knees provide great traction against the bike and protect against exhaust header burns. One of the things we like most about the Contact pant is its light weight. Without a bunch of plastic patches and badges sewn on, it relies on sublimation and sewn panels for its graphic treatment. The jersey, as well, features a more tapered sleeve and less excess material for 2017. Sublimation is excellent and the colors are bright and vivid. And speaking from experience, we can report that the jersey maintains its color and resists fading, wash after wash. Contact gear is a great value, and it performs as great as it looks.

Mike Emery on the Aerolight Line:
Being an editor of TransWorld Motocross allows me to test numerous brands of gear, which can be a blast if you’re into variety! Enter a new player in the US, SHOT Race Gear. Now SHOT has taken feedback from key players in the states and abroad this last year improving their already solid line up. The addition of this Aerolight Line to their arsenal is my opinion of a big step into the high end market. Weighing in lighter than any other gear available on the market, the Aerolite name certainly means something. Upon opening the packages and holding the gear, I could immediately tell that quality is high on their priority list and fitment was spot on when I tried it on. What stood out to me with the pant was the size of the legs, which had a perfect amount of space to allow my knee braces but weren’t super baggy – something that I don’t enjoy in certain gear I’ve ridden in. The jersey was sublimated with all of our logos and was super breathable and light. Riding the first moto, I didn’t actually think too much about the gear as my mind focused on the high-speed LACR circuit (which was a good thing!) When you aren’t thinking about the feel immediately that is an indicator that fitment and flexibility is on point. Style-wise this Aerolight gear was my personal favorite, and the mint/red colors really complemented one another. While it’s not sold as a vented gear set, it breathes very well and wasn’t hot at all while riding. The silicone on the waist line also did a great job of keeping the jersey tucked in! Now I only rode two motos, but look forward to spending some more time in this gear in the weeks to come.
