Dubya USA Tire Iron and Wrench Set

Price: $34.95

What It Is: Constructed of lightweight, forged aluminum, these tire irons are dual purpose with a tire iron tip on one end and a wrench on the other. Each kit comes with two irons, one with a smaller 10mm and 12mm wrench end, and another with 22mm, 27mm and 32mm sizes. The sizes are changed via ingenious snap-in inserts.

Why These Are Cool: A few weeks ago, my beloved toolbox was either poached out of the back of my truck at Starbucks, or it slid out of the back of my Toyota Tundra on the freeway and caused a massive multi-car pileup. Either way, I’ve found myself without many of my favorite tools, including a set of old tire irons that have been with me since my days of working the parts counter at Pasadena Honda in 1987. When you have a feel for a set of tire irons, it’s really difficult to use any other set. Though “tire spoons” are quite popular these days, I have found myself unable to install a new tire with them without pinching the tube. When I’m using the iron to pry the bead over the rim, a spoon-style iron always slips inward and snakebites the tube and foils my entire project.

Last week, I was at the Dubya USA headquarters building up a set of wheels for my A Day In The Dirt race bike, and – of course – I embarrassed myself by pinching the tube in multiple places on my first try with a set of spoons. After explaining my predicament to Dubya’s John Anderson, he handed me a set of their own Tire Iron and Wrench Set tools. The first thing I noticed is that they are super lightweight, yet every bit as strong and rigid as steel irons. (Plus, if you have one leveraged beneath the brake disc as you are working the first bead off the rim and it lets go, an aluminum iron is less likely to render you unconscious if it hits you in the head…haha!)

The wrench ends are amazing as they offer the perfect sizes for removing the front and rear wheel, plus a big 32mm opening for adjusting the steering stem nut! A Euro version with a 13mm adapter instead of a 12mm is available. The tire iron sides, meanwhile, nearly brought a tear to my eyes, as one of ┬áthem is equipped with a very distinct lip, to prevent the iron from sliding in and pinching the tube. This…is why these tire irons are badass! Unlike modern tire spoons, the Dubya USA Tire Iron and Wrench Set does not set you up for failure, and the humiliation that comes along with it!

They are under 35 bucks…a perfect affordable addition to any tool box! Order a set now by CLICKING HERE!
