AJ Catanzaro (#93) rode well in timed qualifying this past weekend and has made some recent changes to his program that have really improved his pace. AJ got a good jump off the gate in his heat race but was caught up in a first turn crash that involved several riders.
AJ ended up at the bottom of the pile and was unable to finish the heat race. He sustained a deep laceration on his back and an injury to his hand that left it severely swollen. AJ was attended to by the Asterisk Medical Crew. The X-Rays on his hand were negative and he received several stitches in his back. With this weekend off, AJ is expected to be ready for New Orleans.
AJ commented, "I felt really confident coming into the night and I am really comfortable on the bike right now." He also said, "I am bummed about the crash and related injuries but I heal fast. I am in NY working with a trainer now and I will be ready in New Orleans."
The team's other two riders Les Smith (#46) and Taylor Futrell (#86) also made it to the night program with Les Smith moving on to the main event finishing 13th overall.
Les said, "With AJ getting hurt, it was a tough night for the whole team. I never really felt comfortable with the bike set up so I did the best I could." He went on to say, "I made a tire change for the main that wasn't the best choice so I kind of struggled a bit with that. I came away with an OK result so all I can do is look forward now to New Orleans."
Taylor commented, "It was better for me but still nowhere near what it needs to be. I have a lot of work to do and will stay focused to get back where I need to be."
Grant Langston, Team Manager, said, "I am disappointed for AJ as he really is riding much better. We as a team will take the time off to heal up and be ready for the next event."
