Corona, CA (January 2, 2008) Troy Lee Designs was founded in 1981 out of Corona, CA by a local professional motocross racer looking to make some extra money on the side to further his racing career. Troy Lee began by painting helmets for “The World’s Fastest Racers and has steadily evolved his business into a multi-million dollar enterprise over the past 27 years. Today, Troy Lee is returning to his roots as he prepares to showcase his team’s capabilities with an assault on the 2008 AMA West Coast Supercross Lites Championship.
In 2003 Troy Lee and Troy Lee Designs established its first professional racing team with the help of two motorsports legends, Jeremy McGrath and Jeff Ward, in the newly formed AMA Supermoto series. Team Troy Lee Designs / Honda / Red Bull was immediately successful in this new form of racing and helped to form and grow the sport as it progressed. In the five years since Team TLD / Honda /Red Bull’s inception, the team has earned three National Championships and the X-Games Gold Medal. Jeff Ward, always a strong competitor and the team’s iconic warrior, won two 450cc Supermoto titles and X-Games Gold. Cassidy Anderson won the 250cc National Championship in 2006 and now competes in the premier Supermoto class for Team TLD.
For 2008 Team TLD / Honda / Red Bull has set its sights on the AMA Supercross West Coast Lites series in addition to the AMA National Supermoto Championships. A natural progression for the team will showcase its capabilities at the highest level of off-road motorcycle competition. With a three-rider team consisting of a dynamic collection of talent and determination, Chris Gosselaar (102), Gavin Gracyk (273), and Justin Keeney (252), will challenge themselves and all others in this year’s West Coast series. Team TLD / Honda / Red Bull should prove a unique and capable force as it progresses into this new arena. Jeff Ward is Team Captain. Who better to coach and mentor the riders as they set their sights on success? Matt Jory will manage the program and he’s supported by Dave Joy, Dave Derosier, Scott Dimick, Mike Rangel, Gavin Trippe, and Chris Vasquez.
Troy Lee Designs will utilize its team as a key element in its future marketing and promotion of the brand. Supercross places the team and the company right smack in the middle of its core customers interests and should prove an effective tool in showcasing the capabilities of their products. There is no better way to test and develop product than with the professional competition at this level. Troy Lee commented, “I’m extremely excited to get started and see how we fare. Our guys and everyone at TLD have worked very hard in preparation for this week’s opener at Anaheim. It’s like a homecoming for us and personally I can’t wait, rain or whatever the weather has in store for us, we’ll take it on!
