TWMXRS El Dorado Series | Glen Helen Raceway | Round 1
The 2017 racing season has officially begun! This weekend, we visited the notorious Glen Helen Raceway for the opening round of the El Dorado Series, presented by SPY, and some great racing was enjoyed by all in attendance. Throughout the week leading up to the race though, Southern California again saw a few days of rain that quite honestly had us wondering if Glen Helen was even going to be rideable, but the track crew at the San Bernardino, CA facility worked tirelessly to bring us another epic racetrack.
Early December was our last TWMXRS outing for the final round of the Fall Classic – six weeks to be exact – so we’ve been chomping at the bit to get back at it. Thankfully, round one did not disappoint, as over 570 of So.Cal’s fastest racers converged onto the confines of Glen Helen for another exciting day at the races.
Once the racing got underway, it was clear that there were some talented, young rippers on hand. Open 85/150F Supermini – a 40 man class – saw Kawasaki Team Green’s Jett Reynolds take the overall with both moto wins, but he first had to fend off the likes of Jeremy Ryan and fellow Team Green rider Dilan Schwartz. Reynolds also went on to sweep both motos of 12-13 yrs 85/150F for a second overall. Schwartz was able to bounce back, though! The number 74 machine was on a mission for moto wins, and he succeeded after taking both moto wins in Big Wheel Open 85/150F for the overall.
30+ Pro saw some incredible speed out of Jason Potter. The Honda rider laid down blistering lap times consistently throughout the day, and he was rewarded with the overall. The number 158 wasn’t finished though, as he also went on to win both motos of Pro-Open for another overall.
By far the most impressive performance of the day went to Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Garrett Marchbanks. The young phenom lined up for three different classes – 250 Intermediate, 450 Intermediate and Schoolboy (125/250F) – and put on an absolute clinic by going home with all three overalls and a total of six moto wins.
Shoutout to all our sponsors who make the TWMXRS El Dorado Series such a great event: SPY, BELL, Yamaha Motors, EVS, Next Components, DT1, Boyesen, MTA Distributing, ODI, FMF, ASC, Race Awards, and Spectro Oils. Thanks to all who made it out to Glen Helen for round one of the El Dorado Series, presented by SPY. We look forward to seeing you all again at Perris Raceway on January 29th for round two. See ya there!
