In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We’ll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…
Last week, Swap and I had the opportunity to shoot with four-time AMA Supercross Champion Ryan Villopoto at the factory Kawasaki test track. As most know by now, RV2 will come out of retirement for one night of racing down under for the Aus-X Open, which is set to be held in Sydney, Australia on November 12-13.
It was a relaxing, light-hearted afternoon of filming with the champ and his mechanic Tanner Ellingsen that was filled with lots of laughs, and of course a bit of riding. It didn’t take long before Villopoto began to look right at home on the Kawasaki practice track, so some riders may have their hands full once RV2 takes to the track on race day. Since retiring, Villopoto has moved back to Washington where he and his wife have enjoyed the opening of their coffee shop along with the addition of healthy twin baby boys. A lot has changed in a short amount of time for Villopoto and his family, but almost nothing has changed once he gets on the bike. The dude’s still got it!
