After torrential downpours earlier in the week, the inaugural Jacksonville round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series has somehow been blessed with near perfect conditions. Blue skies and warm weather have created a pleasant atmosphere for the 14th round of the series. Word is that the Dirt Wurx crew, waiting for the rains to die down, built the track in about 12 hours. What many expected to at least be a soft track has turned out to be slightly on the dry side.
In the first set of practices, newly crowned East Coast Lites champ, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel topped the lap times, ahead of his teammate Austin Stroupe, and Division Seven/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Matt Lemoine.
For the Supercross class, with any Florida round being a homecoming race for many of the sport’s top riders, Florida native San Manuel/L&M/Yamaha rider James Stewart recorded the fastest lap time followed by series rival Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki’s Chad Reed and Toyota/JGR/Yamaha’s Josh Grant. Check out the gallery below and be sure to check back later for more from Jacksonville.

its surprising how many riders still do not wear neck protection. it would be nice if they made it a new rule.
April 4th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
I know, I don’t understand why those guys won’t wear it. Beats me…

they are making it a rule, i believe. Comming SX 2010, neck braces might be mandatory.

I agree.

So happy to see Reed kick ass this season!
I’m calling it right now…
Chad is taking the title again this year!
It’s just a matter of time before Stewart plants his face in the ground again! The fastest guy doesn’t always win! I think we have all seen that many times this season.

that’s a good idea, some of them complain it’s uncomfortable, i wonder how comfortable it would be if they were in a wheelchair for the rest of there lives.

man true that yet they’ll walk around all day in a pair of restrictive knee braces! i broke my neck in a first turn crash and am in a chair! they say its too expensive too, my chairs cost me around 4 0r 5 grand australian plus all the medical costs. Just put one on! it would have saved me no question it would be the first thing i’d buy

if you wear it, you´ll break something else. Or you snapp your neck if the brace gets hocked up on something.
