In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…
We’re only a few short weeks away from the start of the 2017 Lucas Oil Motocross Nationals kickoff, and I for one am ready for a change in pace. Supercross is cool and exciting, but the speeds, sights, and sounds of the MX Nationals are hard to beat for true motocross fans. Ken Roczen’s horrific crash in January left him with a badly injured left arm and he will be out of action for an undetermined amount of time as he heals and rehabs. Honda HRC elected to fill the spot left vacant by Roczen with GEICO Honda’s 250-class racer, Christian Craig. Starting at Hangtown on May 20, Craig will contest the 450 class alongside Cole Seely aboard a factory CRF450R.
Few realize that Craig actually has more 450 MX experience as he contested a few seasons aboard 450 Hondas during his tenure with the Troy Lee Designs Honda team before a brief stint with retirement. A taller rider, Craig and his smooth, calm riding style are better suited to a full-sized bike, and many insiders expect good things from the SoCal native this summer. We caught this photo of Craig at Cahuilla Creek MX Park a few weeks ago, just before the announcement about his fill-in ride hit the Internet.
