In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We’ll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…
Ricky Diaz is easily one of my favorite local riders who you’ve probably never heard of. The 26-year-old from Lake Forest will shred a Southern California track and leave you scratching your head wondering who the hell was the dude on a number-51 Yamaha who just threw a nasty whip over your head. RD51 rips, and I was stoked to see him pull up to our 2016 SLAM Fest last weekend with a crispy 1972 CZ400 in the back of his truck ready to line up in the Hell On Wheels “Run What You Brung” vintage race. I snapped this shot of Diaz as he got acquainted with the old bike that he borrowed from a friend, and even though he says he doesn’t take racing too seriously, he still pulled off a 1-1 victory with shredders like Sean Collier in his class.
