In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…

To start this off…yes, I chose a photo of myself for today’s photo of the day. I woke up this morning and I immediately thought, “What’s the most vain thing I could do on this fine Friday?” Posting a photo of myself and writing about it, then posting the same photo of myself to Instagram is a pretty sweet way to boost the ego! I joke, but this photo is actually funny for a couple reasons. Way back in our December issue of 2016 I shot and wrote a “Skills” article with Dean Wilson on wheelies that turned out rad. (See that article HERE) The truth behind that article was I secretly wanted to learn how to wheelie like a boss myself, and figured I’d learn a lot while getting my article done – two birds with one stone. Ever since I have been telling him how sick my wheelies have gotten and we laugh about it.

Flash forward to our TransWorld Motocross 450 Shootout at Zaca Station MX, and I was lucky enough to not only be the photographer for most of the feature but a test rider as well. Cross that off the bucket list! Our senior contributing editor Casey Davis was the guy behind the lens for my photos on the Yamaha, and after getting our corner shot I joked and said, “Casey! Could you shoot this wheelie over here?!” He obliged, and the result was this photo which I later sent to Dean in a text along with “Reads Dean Wilson’s wheelie tips one time…” Good stuff, but honestly it is crazy to have a photo of yourself riding in a magazine – I never imagined that would happen. The icing on the cake for this whole recipe is that I’m wearing O’Neal Gear, who proudly sponsors the photo of the day (so now you can stop asking why we tag them on Instagram.) To wrap this up…I’ll see ya’ll at Hangtown – I might hang up the cameras and line up! I got wheelies, brah…
