In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We’ll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…
As much as I wanted to post a Thanksgiving themed image for “Photo Of The Day”, I just couldn’t find anything suitable. Instead, I felt that a shot from a prior A Day In The Dirt would be a good substitute, and that’s how I landed on this shot. I shot this photo just a few minutes before the first vintage race of the weekend just as the sun began to produce some great lighting on the riders in staging.
The rider in the yellow jersey is TWMX’s own John Simanovich, and this was a very special ADITD for John and his family because this Honda Elsinore had belonged to his mother. After purchasing the bike brand-new in 1975, “Pops Simanovich” gave the bike to his wife as a gift, and after years and years of sitting in the garage, John felt it was time to bring the old Elsinore back to life in time for ADITD 17. After rebuilding the bike entirely from the ground up and returning it to it’s stock form with a little new-school flavor, John was finally able hit the track aboard his mother’s gift from his dad. That was a moment that even I won’t soon forget.
