In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…

Sometimes you do moderately dumb things in order to have a good time. Such was the case on Sunday morning at this year’s Motocross of Nations at Matterley Basin in England, where I did the mandatory cruise through the crowd to soak it all in and also shoot some good fan photos. I stumbled upon (or they stumbled, literally, upon me) a group of super hammered fans that were well underway with their day’s festivities. One particular dude who was super stoked on my camera asked if he could shoot a photo with it – I laughed and handed it over to him for the sole purpose of fun and solid Instagram story-worthy video. (If you follow me already then you saw it. If you don’t then you should – I need more followers so I get more money off my Skinny Bunny Tea endorsements. Just kidding, I barely post anything anymore. But I’m also not kidding, I really just want to be super popular. @emeryphoto)

All was well, and my drunk buddy tried to take a picture but in another language explained he couldn’t figure it out. He was also about six feet away from his big group of buddies, attempting to shoot with my 300mm lens – there was what I assumed was his problem! I then got back my camera safely, made my new friends, and moved on with my day. Fast forward to looking at the images later and I came upon the 5 or so that he shot – this one being one that really stuck out to me. I thought, “DAMN! this drunken maniac just shot a pretty moody, thought-envoking shot by mistake.” Or was it? Was he really an artsy photographer in disguise as a drunken maniac? We may never know, but if I told you I spent a lot of time thinking about the deep meaning to this photo and how it showed the French fans’ stress and pride during the race, and that I put a lot of effort into it you would probably believe me. I just thought this was a cool photo, and even cooler/random back story – I hope you do too.
