In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We’ll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…
The 2016 SLAM Festival is set to kick off today at Milestone MX Ranch, and I couldn’t be more excited. Some of the best talent in the nation have lined up for the annual event, and this year’s roster is be no different as Dean Wilson, Jake Weimer, Darryn Durham, Chris Blose and a number of other speedsters are slated to compete for the $5,000 purse, a new Traeger Grill, the coveted TransWorld SLAM Championship Belt and of course bragging rights.
I chose this image from last year’s SLAM for today’s “Photo Of The Day” because this was hands down one of the most exciting races in recent years. Zac Commans was at a disadvantage the moment the gate dropped, as he and his underpowered Kawasaki KX250F were set to go head-to-head against Nick “The Milestone Assassin” Schmidt and his Suzuki RMZ450. The gate dropped and Schmidt immediately shut down Commans inside line advantage, but with a bit of finesse the Kawasaki rider moved into the early lead. A heated battle ensued with both riders nearly colliding mid-air at one point along with a number of unsuccessful block pass attempts. When the exciting two lap sprint had concluded, Commans emerged with the race win, but was unfortunately unable to make it happen again in the next round. With the talent that’s set to show up today, there’s bound to be some sort of excitement at this year’s SLAM Festival.
