250 Class: First Moto
With a few riders going down in the first turn, Geico Powersports/Honda’s Trey Canard grabbed the holeshot over Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel. Not long after completing the first lap though, Canard went down, handing the lead over to Pourcel with Brett Metcalfe, also riding a Geico Powersports/Honda, not far behind.
At the five lap mark, Pourcel still held the lead with Metcalfe riding very well in second. Muscle Milk/MDK/KTM rider, Tommy Searle, and Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey battled for several laps, as the Brit eventually relinquished his position to the red plate holder.
From there, Dungey went on a tear and quickly made his way around Metcalfe. Great battles ensued as always in the 250 class and, Metcalfe, his teammeate Blake Wharton, Searle, Canard, and current World GP Champion, Tyla Rattray, were all within four second of one another midway through the moto.
As the laps wound down, the heat just kept rising, with many riders definitely feeling the temps and humidity. Two of note were Searle and Wharton who both went from running in the top four at one point to outside the top five. At the checkers, Pourcel took another win in his nonchalant style, followed by a hard charging Dungey and Metcalfe.
250 Class: Second Moto
Max Anstie nabbed his first pro holeshot aboard his Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/ KTM, but was quickly over taken by Canard. Division 7/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Matt Lemoine finally had a decent start and also moved passed Anstie on the first lap .
Running a strong third was Wharton by the fourth lap and would go on to remain in the positions for the remainder of the race for his best finish of the season. Behind him were Searle, Metcalfe Lemoine, Pourcel, Division 7/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Broc Tickle, Anstie, and Rattray, all running within just a few seconds of one another.
Dungey pressured Canard for about three laps slowly closing the gap until making the pass with an outside, to inside line pass. Pourcel had a horrible start but did not give up, and as the laps wound down he had worked his way into fourth behind Wharton.
In the closing laps, Canard seemed reinvigorated, remounting a charge for the lead. Indeed he was catching the current points leader, but as he neared his competitor, he had a small off track excursion, losing any chance at a moto win. In the end it was Dungey taking the moto win and overall for the day, with Pourcel and Canard rounding out the podium.
Overall Results
1) Ryan Dungey 2-1
2) Christophe Pourcel 1-4
3) Trey Canard 3-2
4) Blake Wharton 7-3
5) Brett Metcalfe 4-7
6) Tommy Searle 6-5
7) Tyla Rattray 5-6
8 ) Broc Tickle 9-8
9) Darryn Durham 8-12
10) Kyle Cunningham 13-9

Really, Chad isnt worth backing? If i remeber correctly Chad has beat Dan every moto this year. Seems like to me that Chad is the better rider, and has better results.

Alessi didn't get the holeshot in the first moto. He was 3rd coming around the first turn but passed both Short and Tedesco for the lead in about 3 corners.

Dude did you even watch the race. When Chad passed Reardon it made Reardon look like he was just in the way. Chad took the corner wide and still beat him out of the turn. Give up Haters Chad is one hell of a rider.

Congrats to Mike Alessi for getting his first 1-1 overall in the 450 class. Especially last year coming in second all year to James Stewart and then crashing hard nearly getting ran over by the whole field! My hat off to Mike for getting a 1-1 agian.

We would if we could. MX Sports limits video permission since Speed has TV rights to the Nats. Expect Mt. Morris pit vids from us next week though.

I love a good bump and run race. Anytime they get close, that is racing people. Who cares if its a little dirty. That keeps the magazine and newspaper and TV guys in business. Rivalry is good for business.

I like chad. He is a good rider. I wish I had half the skills. But I wish I had half the skills of any of the pro riders. Let em race. I think there are too many rules as is.

If, If, If, If! If if's and but's were candy and nuts, everyday would be christmas. What about this if. If Carmichael were here or if Hannah were here, or if Mike Alessi hadn't hurt his knee….. Just deal with the facts. Reed is in the driver seat. He earned it. He is in it, he's not hurt, and is fast. It is a bummer that everyone isn't in it but that's the way it goes. That's also why the championship is more than one race. Over the course of the season the best overall rider will win.

Poor Shorty, nobody pays attention to him even though he is at least one of the top 5 riders on the world…
