Overall — I was pretty disappointed.

1.)  The track design was great.  Good technical sections with different rhythms, and I liked the steel ramp.  However, do they not know what a water hose is in the Home Depot Center?  I mean honestly… the track was in HORRIBLE shape.  Because of the lack of traction, the race basically ended where it started — barring crashes.  Got a good start?  Chances are you got a good finish…

2.)  Jeremy McGrath.  Wow… that dude just slowed everyone down.  Three guys tried to pass him (all of which I feel could have caught the leader and started a REAL battle), all three failed, two went down.  I mean, all the respect in the world for the former champ, but he pretty much killed all the racing action.  I suppose that's “racing,” but I still wish he hadn't ridden such a wide bike, which would have allowed more battling for the lead.  Instead, it was Lil Hanny running away with the lead while riders struggled to pass McGrath on the super skinny, super dry track.

3.)  What happened to heats three and four?  We saw one and two, went to commercial, and then we popped up for the LCQ.  How about instead of rushing all the heats back to back, they show two heats, take the commercial break to WATER THE TRACK, show two heats and maybe the LCQ, take another commercial break to WATER THE TRACK, then show the main.

4.)  Again, the shape of the track just led to it becoming a one lined race, with passing and catch up nearly impossible.  I'm super bummed at the lack of action.

5.)  J-Law.  Hahaha.

Two quotes from his Racer-X interview:

-JLaw: “X Games. I plan on showing up and killing it. I’ll have about a month of frustration to release and I’m either going to win or crash big trying again.”

-JLaw: “Thanks for coming out. And hey, tell everybody to keep an eye on the No. 338 bike at the X Games because it’s going to be insane.”

Coming in second to last, only beating Josh Hill, who crashed battling for second, I'd say he hardly “killed it,”  and the only thing that was “insane” is that he managed to make the main event.

Edit:  I'm watching the Supermoto now, and the track actually looks tackier for the sumo guys than the moto guys.  Sad, sad day…

Don't know if i'd be too keen on riding a one lined, blue groove track like that when its just been watered. They could probably handle it though.

Hill's crash - wild, haven't seen someone launch a bike off the finish line jump since deegan

I suppose I should clarify.  Not just water the track, but maintain it.  Disk it, water it, groom it, etc…

We saw gaps in Sumo racing where it broke to BMX, then back to Sumo 15 minutes later.  They should have done that for MotoX with some track maintenance during those breaks.

Yep, the track was technical, a little innovative, and looked fun, but it was a relatively narrow cow trail, too.

I think the reason they don't “prep” the track is, it's used for 3 or 4 different events. Blue groove is the “happy medium” for all the events without a lot of extra work.

I tend to believe that Showtime rode smart, by getting a good start, and holding his line. If the track had been wider, and less one-lined, he might have finished outside the top 5.

And, even though it was fun to watch, it's never much compared to AMA MX/SX.

Racing is LIFE. Everything else is just…waiting.

Dude you're trippin,

The track was pretty dusty, but whatever it always is, they arent gunna be able to disc that track.

MC rode an awesome race, he raced 3x in a row, his heat, his LCQ then the main, hes a pimp. And people going down trying to pass him is their own fault. MC may not be as fast as some of the riders but he's smart and knows his stuff, so if they can't pass him good for him!

When are you gunna stop callin me a barney?

Oh no dude… I totally agree.  MC rode a great race.  I'm sure he was totally stoked with it.  I'm just bummed that he got in the way of the faster guys.  If the track were in better shape, I don't doubt he'd be at the back of the top 5.  I was just hoping to see some back and forth battling between the leaders.  Not “Oh… here comes someone to challenge MC.  Annnnd another one bites the dust.”

And yea dude, the most definitely can maintain the track better than that.  I've never seen an AMA SX track that bad, and there's no reason they can't maintain it like they do a real SX track.

MC did awesome! 3 straight races and he held off  people 10-15 years younger than him. He didnt hold anyone up they all crashed on their own. nothin to do with MC. He was just protecting his lines in some spots. Did you see when he looked back and saw Josh Summey on the inside so he apexed the corner early rather than being block passed? Text book move.

What did you want him to do? Move over?

What would you do in a race?

I already said this, but apparently some of you don't read the entire thread before sounding off.

Yes, MC road a brilliant race.  He shouldn't have done anything differently.  I wish, however, that he hadn't been in second.  He DID hold up 3 different guys from getting up there and battling for the lead.  Hill had the pass, but MC pinched him off and made him crash.  Grant would have had the pass several times, but there just wasn't enough traction.  Summey would have had the pass, but once again, just couldn't get it done.  All three of those guys were undeniably faster than MC.  Yes, once again, MC rode a great race.  But, once again, I wish he were further back in the pack so how wouldn't have held all those other guys up from battling for the lead.
