Hey, Im writing from Mexico! Im a very big fan of TWMX! the best MX website/magazine on the planet! I have a question, do anyone know why RC and Bubba didn't use a leatt brace?
I just wanna know why the fastest riders on motocross history didn't use one of those awesome things!
Best regards from Apan, Hidalgo, MEXICO!

the leatt is not for everyone. some people cant get used to it being around their necks and decide not to wear one.

I wouldn't go that far. They care about their safety without a doubt… but if they're totally concentrated on something around their neck they're more likely to wreck. So at that point, having one on becomes a safety issue in itself. So it's not that they don't care, they don't wear it because they do care.

Honestly i dont like the leatte, no one ever was worried or sayin how they would have brocken there neck before that came out. I just hate the feeling on my shoulders and with on collar bone with a plane in it and the other badly broken it bothers me.

I think its because although the leatt does reduce the risk of a neck and or spinal injury in a big crash it may or can break a collar bone in a fall over or small crash… GIve n take…

Like some of you have said, the Leatt isn't for everyone. For me, as long as i have my chest protector on, i slip it on too, and i dont even know its on. Some people jsut dont like the feel of it on their neck. Personally, gear is never going to be comfortable all the time, but I'd rather have it on, even if it did bother me a little, like my knee braces rub on my legs, and have my chances of injury lessened than not have them at all and get seriously hurt or killed. I'm no where in the same galaxy of speed as those two, but if i rode as fast as those two, I'd probably want some kind of neck protection.

Well, I think the leatt brace is awesome! I've been using it since feb/08 and I feel very comfortable with it, I just feel with more confidence while I'm riding because I know I am more protected! and yeah… I know if I crash I can have a broken collarbone, but also, I know that I will have my C's vertebrae out of danger! or at least the leatt will help to protect them! but, yeah…everyone has their own riding style…

RC and Bubba grew up not wearing one, they are so fast already, so it might be that since they never wore one, they just didnt want to change anything about what they do. I never heard Ricky talk about it, but I know someone who knows ricky and bubba and their families very well, and i could ask him when i go ride next time, or when we see him at Lorettas.

hey guys massive fan of TWMX im writing in from Australia. AS much as the leatt braces become massive over here, there is the issue with the braking of colllarbones with a dramatic increase in the junior ranks. Personally i would rather brake a collarbone a 3rd time then brake my neck, but others have other ideas on the matter!

what about all the people that do wear the brace, Alpinestars or leatt, Chad both Ryans,Trey, Austin to name a few if they were no good would they really wear them? It's these guys living and the Leatt/Alpinestars ensures they can keep doing it week in week out.

Ok, here are my two cents.
1. They probably do not like the feel of it on them. I personally believe that this is not the best way to go about it. They are idols to so many kids and they should lead the way. Also, if you do something, or wear something long enough you soon forget that the new object is there. Just like new helmets or boots they are uncomfortable at first but then you get used to them.
2. As for the person who said they have a ton of insurance… they may have insurance but if your neck is broken or they become paralyzed then there is nothing insurance companies or doctors can do for them anymore.
3. And finally, the person who said that with the brace on they are more prone to breaking their collar bone… That is not even smart thinking. It only takes 10lbs. to break your clavicle. If you tip over and just land the wrong way, that would be enough to break it.
So in the end… People should ride with them. Instead of buying that $800 pipe or brand new gear every 3 months, do yourself a favor and buy the brace and get used to it.
Not to hate on anyone, but I just want people to be informed.
