Hello,

Need some advice I have a yamaha 250f when I line up at the starting gate I am the first one out for about 10 ft. and then everyone passes me.  Its like I can't get anymore power from the bike.  Once I hit the first conner I start passing people left and right.  Is there something I can do to my bike to help me stay in front instead of me working so hard to get back up front?  Thanks for your help….

If you leave the gate in 2nd gear (and you should), shift to 3rd as soon as feel the rear wheel leave the gate while keeping the throttle pegged. As soon as it feels right, shift to 4th using the clutch while the throttle is still pegged. Listen for the other bikes around you to shut off for the turn. Don't shut off until they all do. This will give you a couple of bike lengths going into the turn. At first you will think you are going to overshoot the turn but you won't if you are as good after the turn as you say you are. If this doesn't work then try changing your bike's gearing or do something to get more mid to top end power. Happy hole shots.

Be sure you get all the traction you can in the rear end… Stay as straight as possible.

Do what the post above of me says, or try holding on to second gear a bit longer.

Also, search/look for holeshot/start tutorials. Compare what you are doing to others. See what you can pick up from them… I think Ryno did a half decent one with Borky..

(Youtube can be a good resource)

what the first guy said is what you need to do all starts. you can also leave your feet down dont put them on the pegs intel half way so u have all ur wait diging the bike into the ground, and u shift with the back of ur boot. so that way u stay straight on the bike and not slide around.
