Mitch Van De Mortel, 20Yorba Linda, CASponsors: Gaspar Transportation, LeBard & Underwood Yamaha Honda, Troy Lee Designs, Motul, RG3 Suspension, MotocrossATV.com, Jim Gibson MX Mitch Van De Mortel had a strong showing at the third round of the Transworld Racing Series at Perris MX, taking home two moto wins in the 450 Pro class and 1-2 finishes in the Open Pro class to take home a pair of pro class overall wins. Van De Mortel had a break in his racing this year with an injury, but has returned to form quickly and has put himself back to the front of the races. With the desire to make a new beginning in the national pro class in the future, he seems well on his way to realizing that dream. How long have you been riding?I’ve been taking it series for about 3 years now. Before that it was once a month or once every other month or so. What class were you when you got serious 3 years ago?
I was in the novice class. In 3 years you’ve moved up to pro and look strong in the pro class today, how did you move up so quick?Just working really hard with my dad and him keeping bikes together to practice on. Riding and racing five days a week. Besides the riding, what do you do to keep in shape?I used to ride my road bike down to the beach and back, which is 45 miles, but there has been people getting robbed down there so I stopped with that. Now I just run and do core exercise. What do you like about the Transworld Race Series?
I like the crowd that comes with it. There is good quality people, no fights or trouble. There is good competition and decent length motos. Overall, how has your year been?Just been getting back into it, I was off the bike for 4-1/2 months because I hurt my PCL and then re-injured it at one of the other rounds. This is my 4th weekend back racing now. What are your plans for 2013?I want to get the rest of my pro points this year, then start at Hangtown and race the first round of the nationals. Then maybe hit Texas, Washougal and some of the close races.
