Round two of the 2016 Monster Energy FIM Motocross World Championship takes place this weekend in Suphan Buri, Thailand. Although this is a different venue than last year’s race, the sweltering heat of Southeast Asia was present during Saturday’s practice sessions and qualifying motos.

The weather wasn’t the only thing hot in Thailand, as MXGP qualifying winner Ben Townley voiced his concerns over the track conditions of the first two stops of the globe-trotting series during the post-race press conference, stating, “Coming to some of these tracks, they’re just not good enough. You’re going to hear honest and open from me. Qatar and here, these tracks aren’t the pinnacle of our sport. We’re the MXGP, the best riders in the world. And these guys can’t sit here and honestly say its an amazing place to ride a motorcycle. We’re in a flat paddock, in the middle of nowhere.”

The Team Suzuki World MXGP continued on with, “I tried to get a GP in New Zealand. We would have been there this weekend or the following weekend for that GP. You guys would have the best event on the entire calendar if you came to New Zealand. That is where the culture shock is for me, to be here and in conditions like this. This is not, in my opinion, isn’t good enough for the sport and I’m glad I got the opportunity to say that here today. Because get told to not put the sport in disrepute and this and that, but this is the best championship in the world. And I think that it deserves better.”
