One of our favorite parts of the race season is onboard coverage compiled by the staff at GoPro. As a major sponsor to Monster Energy Supercross Series, the company is able to stick their famed line for Hero4 cameras practically anywhere they want. Lucky for us, they snapped cameras onto James Stewart, Cole Seely, and Mitchell Oldenburg for the 2016 Oakland SX, the fourth round of the long series. The three riders had interesting motos at O.Co Coliseum, on a track that was incredibly technical and challenging. We didn’t spot some of the ruts from our place in the press box, but after seeing just how deep they were from a rider’s perspective, it makes the laps even more impressive.
One other cool detail is that Stewart and Seely both had cameras on and were running close in the early laps of the main event, so you can see two sides of their night. We hope footage from Davi Millsaps comes sometime this week, because the three-way fight between the BTO Sports KTM rider, his teammate Justin Brayton, and RCH/Soaring Eagle/Jimmy John’s/Suzuki Factory Racing’s Jake Weimer was one of the best of the weekend.
Oldenburg sure passed a lot of riders in his footage. The Troy Lee Designs/GoPro/Red Bull/KTM rider started the race outside the top-ten and climbed to a fourth place finish by the checkered flag.
