After two somewhat troublesome years in the United States, Arnaud Tonus has returned to his native Switzerland for the foreseeable future. Signed to Mitch Payton’s Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki squad for 2015 and 2016, the fluid racer was expected to be a hit on the Supercross circuit until a sudden and serious illness put Tonus on the sidelines for most of his first season. The issue was cured for 2016 and Tonus again looked set to be a contender on the East Coast, but shoulder injuries impeded the progress. With very few US gates drops to his credit, Tonus has now signed with the newly formed Wilvo Yamaha MXGP team for the 2017 season and will make his premier class debut at the opening round in Qatar early next year. During the downtime at the 2016 Geneva SX, we spent a few minutes in conversation with the likable racer, who was returning to action in front of his hometown crowd (Tonus lives just ten minutes away from the Palexpo venue) for the first time in years.
