Malcolm Stewart is one of the biggest topics in this offseason. After clinching the 2016 Monster Energy Supercross 250 East Coast title with GEICO Honda, Stewart was forced to bump up to the 450 class for future seasons. Many expected the younger Stewart to sign a contract in the offseason months, but it’s currently November and no ink has been put to paper for 2017.
So as of now, a few personal sponsors have signed on but there is no team for Stewart in 2017. Should nothing materialize before Anaheim One, Stewart says he’ll show up on his own bike with a van to race and then wait for a possible fill-in rider.
Even with the setbacks, Stewart has continued his usual program and has traveled to France for the 2016 Paris-Lille SX. He’s aboard a CRF450R at this event and has received a few loaned parts from the GEICO Honda squad. During some down time on Friday night, we conducted a Facebook Live interview with Stewart and let him address the concerns for his future that have arisen over the last few months. Honest and off the cuff, this twenty-minute talk addresses every question you might have.
