The 2009 Mammoth Motocross Classic is here, so we decided to get some track footage from the Vet weekend as a preview for this coming amateur weekend. Our own Brendan Lutes threw down a few laps this weekend aboard the 2009 Service Kawasaki KX500AF with our TWMX helmet cam… There’s nothing quite like the sound of a two-stroke ripping around the famous Mammoth track.

Lutes, how did you like riding that beast? I've toyed with the idea of flying out there (from NC) next year to race the Vet weekend, anybody have any ideas as far as bike rental companies?

i understand mammoth is a older track but, you'd think they would maybe take care of it.. it looks like a lame track to ride.

Is this track only open once a year ? Seems like a cool track to ride ,but man that downhill looks harsh..

The sound of pure power! Gotta love it.

Was that thing kind of loading up or was it just me…Then again, it's been awhile since I climbed aboard my brother's rattle-trap CR500. Those things sound like they're falling asleep until your going mach 2 on the edge of out of control.

Track looks rough just the way I like it haha!

Missed Mammoth this year due to injury. Awesome video! No one passes you up the hill if you've got an open class two stroke. Rockier and rockier each year, still not to be missed.

Yeah, that bike is pretty gnarly. Very fast and fun on a smooth track.

Yeah, the track is only open once a year for the race. It used to be open more, but with new Forest Service restrictions, it can only be ridden on for the race.

Yeah, this bike was made by Service Honda. There's going to be a test on it coming out in our next issue. I believe it's the August issue.

Haha that thing must be eye opening when the powerband really came on… I was thinking about one of those things for woods riding. How did you like the power? More low or top end?

Brandon do you think if you had more time on that bike you could ride AS fast as a 450? Ive been looking at buying that exact bike..I rode 500's back in the day with Donn and rode them for like 8 years but have not been on one since 99'.. You looked like you were riding it just fine.. Is the test /review gonna be your take on it from mammoth mnt?
Thanks
Hoss

It sounds exactly like a 250F except down in the idle stage. But once he gets on the power it sounds deep like a 250F. Pretty Cool. I bet its hard to hang on to.
