SPY Optic, along with media partner TransWorld Motocross,  announce the first annual SPY Del Moto Derby Pro/Am Invitational. The newly formed event will take place during the San Diego County Fair at the historic Del Mar Fairgrounds on Sunday, June 17th. 75 of the sport’s best Pro/Am riders will compete across five classes on the specially designed crossover course that will be constructed inside the Del Mar Arena.

“Every year, all the segments at SPY are able to do one event,” said SPY’s Victor Sheldon. “And this year I wanted to do a one of a kid event along with the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The track will be a mix of Supercross, Arenacross, and motocross inside an amazing facility.” The Sunday evening race will be part of the fair’s Red Bull Triple Set.

15 riders for the five classes (65 Open, 85 Open, Junior 14-18 Open, Intermediate Open, and Pro Open) will be chosen after a selection process determines the most qualified racers in each class, with the Junior, Intermediate, and Pro divisions being open to any size bike. The day’s schedule begins with the 65 class from 10:30AM until 12:30PM, the 85 and Junior classes from 2PM until 4PM, and finally the Intermediate and Pro classes from 6:30PM to 8:30PM. Practice for each group will take place just prior to their scheduled time.

To be invited to the event, racers must send a brief resume to KKRAUSE@spyoptic.com . A panel will then determine which riders are qualified to compete. There will be 15 gates per class with three alternate riders.
