As we mentioned earlier in Monday Kickstart, the Genoa Superbowl SX ’12 took place this weekend in Italy. Moved up a few weeks from last year, it is the first of many European races that take place in the off-season, which includes Bercy and Geneva. While few hold the prestige of Bercy, they are the perfect way for an American racer to stay active and earn a few bucks/Euros while others tick off repetitive laps on the Southern California layouts.

At Genoa, Americans Eli Tomac and Justin Brayton bested a handful of Europe’s most prominent riders to respectively take both main event wins, and Brayton the overall victory. The JGR/Toyota/Yamaha racer is no stranger to the tight confines of an arena, as he cut his teeth on numerous Arenacross tours in the Midwest. Among the Europeans racing was Christophe Pourcel, who raced aboard a privateer KTM after separating from the CLS Kawasaki team. The two-time East Coast Lites SX champion struggled with technical issues in both events and finished at the rear of the field. Pourcel’s issues allowed his GP rivals Gautier Paulin and Cedric Soubeyras to flourish, and both scored top-five and podium finishes.

The next on the schedule will be in Paris, France, for the 30th Bercy SX. Both Tomac and Brayton will battle for  three nights against Jake Weimer, Pourcel, Soubeyras, and defending King of Bercy, Kyle Chisholm. All races can be viewed live at for a fee.
